Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Teaser

A new teaser trailer has arrived for Battlefield: Bad Company 2:

Although the trailer doesn’t show any specific gameplay, it does tell us a bit about the changes in Bad Company 2.  One obvious example is the ability for snipers to operate in prone position.  This was oddly missing from the first Bad Company, although I wonder if this will make snipers too powerful, if they can be even more stealthy.

The trailer also suggests that there may be blood effects as well, since blood is prominently displayed.  The way the knife is used in the trailer is also different from the standard slashing movement in the game — I’m not sure whether this is for show or not, though.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is due out next winter — probably in early 2010.  The 3-map Xbox Live Arcade title Battlefield 1943: Pacific will be out this May to keep us busy until then.

Very stylized. Seems influenced by many of the movies we’ve seen made from graphic novels lately.

The problem with trailers like this is that they do a good job at getting you excited about the game but you’re left wondering if it’s a true representation of the gameplay. I would think that it isn’t a true representation of gameplay because the visual style of the trailer would simply make gameplay difficult and potentially really annoying. If that turns out to be true… well, there’s nothing I dislike more than marketers MISrepresenting their game with some fancy trailer. I’ll never forget watching the Warhammer trailer and then playing the game. Not that I thought playing Warhammer would be like the trailer but good lord – could it have been farther from the reality of the gameplay! It’s just as if part of the game relies on you IMAGINING a more intense and beautiful world around you in game and I just think that’s weak sauce!

Considering how it uses the same game engine as the first one, it’s not going to look like this. This is just to tease us and build a little hype — but it does give us a bit of information about the game, which I mentioned in my post.
