Capcom announces Lost Planet 2

Lost Planet 2

Capcom released an announcement last night via Xbox Live, revealing the development of Lost Planet 2 with a trailer for the game.

The sequel takes place ten years after the original Lost Planet, where the planet EDN III has apparently warmed up in a hurry, revealing some jungle areas.  (I wasn’t aware that jungles grew so quickly… what are all of those save-the-rainforest clowns whining about?)

Capcom says that fan feedback is playing a larger-than-usual role in the development of Lost Planet 2.  The company also promises a co-op mode.

No release date was announced.

Capcom seemed to think this news was a really big deal… they announced that they’d be making an announcement ahead of time, and the guy in the video seemed to think the news was on-par with Resident Evil 5.  It’s only been two years since Lost Planet was first released — they seemed to act as if it were a long-standing favourite of gamers everywhere.  To be honest, I was largely underwhelmed by Lost Planet in the first place.

I don’t know — what do you think about this?  Does Capcom have you excited about Lost Planet 2?

[Update: Capcom has confirmed that the game will be Xbox 360-exclusive.]
