Sequels spotted: Mirror, Dead Space & Gears

December 10th, 2008 |

EA has commented on its 2010 fiscal year, reacting to its sales numbers as 2008 closes out.  The company admits that many of its releases didn’t do as well as it hoped, but confirms that it’s not done with them.  The new franchises Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space, in particular, will continue.  In the non-Xbox world, the company also commented that it will continue to move along with Warhammer Online and will make more out of Spore.

I was a little concerned about Mirror’s Edge in particular.  This game was a lot of fun, but as I mentioned in my review, I wanted more.  EA CEO John Riccitiello comments:

“Mirror’s Edge was very strongly reviewed – That one’s going to go forward. We’ll be looking at some issues around the design to make sure that strong IP is married with strong business.”

Meanwhile, a rumour has surfaced at EGM regarding the next Gears title, Gears of War 3.  Considering how Gears of War 2 is doing so well, it only makes sense that a third game be produced.  Current rumours include a release in 2010 and a 5-player co-op mode.  Time will tell.

UPDATE: Epic has since dismissed the rumours about Gears of War 3, saying that they’re focused on adding to Gears 2 before they move on to another title.
