Xbox classics coming to Live Marketplace

Halo: Combat Evolved

This December, Microsoft will be brining some original Xbox games to the Xbox Live Marketplace for download. Until now, the service has mostly been used for lighter arcade games, but the introduction of games from the previous generation puts this online marketplace right up there with the Nintendo Wii. The Wii’s Virtual Console allows NES, SNES, Sega Genesis and other classic games to be played on the Wii, but doesn’t include more recent GameCube titles.

Halo, Fable, Burnout 3, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, Farenheit and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge are the first games that will show up on the service, with many more to come. The games will sell for 1200 Microsoft Points, which is about $15 U.S., $18.50 Canadian, £10 or €14.

No word yet on what kind of Achievements are available to these games. Retail games give 1000 Gamerscore each, while Xbox Live Arcade games give 200. It would be nice to get some decent Gamerscore for replaying old favourites.

I think that’s a pretty steep price for old games that you have to download. I can get old games at Wal-mart for that price. Should be more like $7.99 to $12.99. We’ll have to wait and see I guess. One more thought, How do you back up your games?
