Bioshock .ini digging reveals new Plasmids?

Bioshock Plasmid

Gaming Today points us to the 2K Games forums, where one poster has been digging through the .ini files on his PC copy of Bioshock.

In the files, he’s found something interesting. One of them makes mention of ‘downloadable content’ and lists seven plasmids and four gene tonics — items that allow you to upgrade and customize your character — that are not currently available in the game. Bioshock does promise downloadable content, and that’s likely to include some new plasmids and/or tonics. This guy may have stumbled upon their names:

The Plasmids

  • Air Blast Two
  • EVE Saver
  • Vending Expert
  • Machine Bully
  • Revival
  • Life Drain
  • Electric Bolt Zero

The Gene Tonics:

  • Machine Buster
  • Vending Expert
  • Sonic Boom
  • EVE Saver

As you can see, there’s some overlap between the two — and it’s not hard to imagine the function of each based on the names. A whole class of gene tonics called “Ecology” is also mentioned.

Since these have existed in the files since the game’s release, it remains to be seen when/if they will appear as pay-to-access content. Hopefully any new content will have more than just plasmids, and actually add some playtime to the game. Keep an eye on Xbox Live to see if these surface anytime soon.

Paying to unlock content that is already in the game will probably not be a popular move. I hope those plasmid names are just place-holders for content that they are still working on. I don’t mind paying a few bucks for new content, but not if the content is simply “locked” on my hard drive!
