Vista Released!
January 30th, 2007 |So, Windows Vista is now available to the masses, and with it comes some cool stuff for Xbox 360 fans.
Vista will introduce cross-platform gaming between the Xbox 360 and the PC in a much more integrated way than has been done in the past. Final Fantasy XI already allows cross-platform between the 360, PC and PS2 — but it’s not perfect.
Vista will allow you to sign in to PC games using your Xbox Live gamertag. PC games will have achievements, and gamerscore. Players can buy for whichever platform they prefer, and play with friends on both.
They’re even adding achievements to the PC version of Halo 2 for those who already have it. Good stuff for Microsoft. I still think the achievements are one of their best marketing ideas ever.
Vista still has performance issues, though, so watch out. I’d suggest only upgrading if you have a brand new PC… otherwise, you might want to hold off until you can add some more horsepower to your machine, or if the performance is improved in future updates or service packs.
